DEMOCRATS WELCOME THE STATE GOVERNMENT’S THEFT OF SMOKEY VEHICLE HOTLINE IDEA
Sandra Kanck, the Deputy Leader of the Australian Democrats, has applauded the State Government’s brazen theft of her "Dob in a Smokey Vehicle" hotline idea.
Whilst pursuing the issue of smokey exhausts has been a passion for a number of years Ms Kanck first proposed the concept of a Smoky Vehicle Hotline on November the 5th last year.
"My only concern now is the fact that the start up date for this scheme will probably be after the next state election," says Ms Kanck.
"The State Government has a suspicious habit of scheduling the starting date for green initiatives after the likely date of the next state election.
"The permanent banning of mining in the Gammon Ranges has been left until after the next state election and the decision to extend the container deposit legislation has been put off until January 2003.
"I can’t help be suspicious that the Kerin Government is more interested in giving the appearance of being committed to environmental concerns than actually doing anything about it.
"Indeed during the last State Election the Liberal Government lifted the Democrats policy of extending a light rail connection to Football Park.
"Yet when it came to fulfilling its pledge a second rate bus system is what football commuters were left with.
"Voter beware."
