The Australian Democrats have demanded that Minister Brown place the findings of a Task Force investigation into Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder before a Parliamentary Committee.

Parliamentary leader, Mike Elliott, today called on Minister Brown to face the bipartisan parliamentary inquiry into ADHD and put the investigation’s overdue findings on the public record.

"The Democrats have real concerns that a lack of government services is behind the ninety fold growth in the use of amphetamines to treat children with ADHD in South Australia," said Mr Elliott.

"It is essential Minister Brown provides any information he has to a committee that is inquiring into the adequacy of government services for ADHD in South Australia.

"The Government’s first task force inquiry into ADHD made recommendations about referrals and prescription for amphetamines, but two years later a lack of State Government support to implement the recommendations has seen them fade to nothing.

"When community concern rose again in August this year Minister Brown announced another task force investigation that had less than a month to report.

"The Minister has had these findings for almost a month fully aware that the parliamentary inquiry is under way and a state election is imminent.

"Over the last three years the Australian Democrats have witnessed the future of many young people slip away while the State Government has been content to avoid its responsibilities.

"Minister Brown must face up to his responsibility, come before the inquiry and explain where the Inquiry findings are and what they contain"
