NO DISTINCTION IN BUDGET REPORT CARD
Overall Accrual Result - Fail
"The failure of the State Government’s massive privatisation program resulted in no net benefits to the bottom line in yesterday’s State Budget," Australian Democrats leader, Mike Elliott, said today.
"Instead of a surplus it has resulted in a $38 million deficit (Paper 3, p.3.4)."
"Despite the State Government raiding its SAFA nest-egg to a tune of $92 million this is still a deficit Budget (Paper 3, p.2.6)."
Education - Fail
"There was no increase in year level per capita funding, disadvantaged student funding, student with disabilities funding or ESL funding (Paper 5, vol. 2, p.9.8)."
"There has been no funding provided to increase the SSO to teacher ratio so that schools can address learning problems rather than just test for them (Paper 5, vol. 2, p.9.7)."
Employment - Fail
"The Australian Democrats support the State Government finally adopting the Democrats’ long held policy of cutting back and abolishing payroll tax (Budget Speech, p.4) but it won’t compensate for electricity price increases."
"The State Government failed to rectify cuts of over 1000 public service traineeships for our young unemployed."
Environment - Fail
"Our national parks which are already under great stress have had no relief (Paper 5, vol.2, p.10.25)."
"Spending only $7 million over fours years on Adelaide’s coastline is a cynical gesture given that the State Government is already spending over $2 million a year on sand movement as a result of approving the Holdfast Shores development (Speech, p.8)."
Recreation – Pass
"The injection of funding to help South Australian children become fitter not fatter is a good start, but well overdue (Budget speech, p.8)."
