POLL OPPOSES HORTICULTURE IN HILLS FACE ZONE
The Australian Democrats today released the results from a community survey conducted as part of the activities associated with the Olympic Torch run.
The Boothby Branch of the party consulted visitors to the Democrats display at the ‘Marion Celebrates’ activities last weekend on horticulture in the hills face zone.
Of the 131 respondents 84.7% opposed horticulture in the hills face zone.
"This survey reinforces that there is a clear community expectation that the Adelaide Hills face zone must be protected," Australian Democrats leader, Mike Elliott, said today.
"The issues that the community is concerned about are not just aesthetic. It is concerned about use of pesticides, bird scarers and guns. These issues always arise when horticulture and housing are allowed too close to each other.
"The Minister for Planning is charging ahead with her changes without properly listening to community concerns.
"The Minister should have given interim protection from horticulture so that debate could take place over the next couple of months without unacceptable development occurring.
"As this survey has shown people do not want the threats to residents and wildlife of pesticides and pesticide drift."
