OLSEN OR THE GOVERNMENT MUST GO

The Australian Democrats today proclaimed that the future of South Australia depended on either Premier Olsen or the whole state government resigning.

"The arrogance, instability, ineptitude and lack of accountability of the Olsen Liberal government has brought South Australia to its knees over the past seven years," Australian Democrats leader, Mike Elliott, said today.

"If the last state budget showed nothing else it is that South Australia still has severe difficulties.

"What this state needs is a new start and visionary leadership. Incompetent ministers and factional squabbling have been tolerated long enough.

"Instead, we have a patched together ‘hotch potch’ of a state government, made up of blind ideologists, egotists and underachievers. As soon as the Premier is out of sight the government falls apart.

"If the Premier cannot unite his government, how can he unite this state for the immense task ahead?

"The Australian Democrats preference would be for a new Premier, because a new Labor government would be much of the same.

"The Labor Party could not unite its members to oppose the ETSA privatisation in opposition, imagine what would happen when faced with the pressures of government?

"However, if the state government cannot produce a visionary new Premier to unite his party for the benefit of all South Australia, then the state government must resign and let the people decide.

"The growth in support for the Democrats and independents over recent years show that the South Australian public is sick of factional infighting and want parties who will be the people’s voice in parliament."
