MINISTER FOR WATER IN WAYNES WORLD
The newly appointed Minister for Water Resources, Mark Brindal, is off to a poor start with one misleading statement and one ridiculous statement in his first public comments concerning the River Murray.
"The notion of a pipeline extending from the Ord River to Adelaide is an economic and political fantasy," says Sandra Kanck, Democrats Deputy Leader.
"How does the Minister intend to fund the construction of a 3000 kilometre pipeline and pumping stations through central Australia?
"What does the Minister think the cost of the water would be by the time it reached suburban Adelaide?
"This is on the level of building a man-made mountain through the parched centre to attract rain-clouds.
"It is not worthy of a Minister of the Crown charged with dealing with this states most pressing environmental problem.
"Its also unfortunate that the Minister chose to perpetuate the myth that Victoria was seeking to divert water from the Murray to the Snowy River.
"The Victorian Government has made it clear that increased flows in the Snowy depends on water savings further up stream and will not result in diminished flow for the Murray.
"Given the Minister talks about working with the other states he'd be well advised get his facts straight."
