In March the Genetically Modified Crops Management Bill was passed by the Parliament.  Both the Labor Government and the Liberal Opposition voted against efforts by the Democrats to amended the Bill to include a fixed five year moratorium.

Instead we have a three year pause that can be repealed at any time by the Minister.  Further there are a wide range of exemptions where the Minister can approve the release of GM crops in a 'GM Free Zone'.

The good news is that the Government has adopted Democrat provisions on the protection of GM free farmers against being sued by the Agro-seed companies in South Australian courts .
